Miss Susan Byrne - co-owner/director

Susan is the Artistic Director of Dance Exclusive of Swampscott which she founded in 1990. She received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Salem State College with a concentration in Physical Fitness and is also a graduate of the Dance Teacher’s Club of Boston’s Teacher Training School. Miss Susan started to study dance at the age of four and has been dancing ever since! She has trained under the direction of Miss Helen Deane and Miss Cynthia Marnik at the Deane School of Dance for 20 years and had the opportunity to perform at the professional level. Miss Susan appeared in many performances with the Salem Ballet Company with artists such as David Brown, Judith Choaf and Frank Ohman of the NYC Ballet as well as Laura Young, Tony Cantazaro and Stephanie Moi of the Boston Ballet. Miss Susan also currently teaches at the Deane School of Dance where she is an advisor and choreographer to the Tap and Jazz Corps. She is the Assistant Director of the New England Ballet Ensemble and is the co-founder of the New England Broadway Connection.

 
 

Miss Seanna Chmura - co-owner/director

Seanna is the Artistic Director/Choreographer of the Deane School of Dance and the Salem Ballet Company and also the founder and choreographer of the Deane School of Dance Tap and Jazz Corps. Miss Seanna received a B.S. degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Management from Salem State College. She is a graduate of the Dance Teachers’ Club of Boston Teacher Training Course, and is a member of the Dance Teachers’ Club of Boston with the American Society of Dance Teachers and Dance Masters of America New England Chapter # 5. Miss Seanna is also co-director of the New England Ballet Ensemble, co-director and choreographer to the New England Broadway Connection, and for 8 seasons, was the choreographer for Bishop Fenwick High School’s Drama Club. Miss Seanna has trained with her grandmother, Miss Helen Deane, and Miss Cynthia Marnik at the Deane School of Dance since early childhood.

 
 

Miss Cynthia Marnik


Cynthia has taught tap, jazz, and ballet at the Deane School since 1970, as well as several dance schools in Massachusetts. She is now an artistic advisor at the Deane School and teaches tap classes. During those years, many dance teachers all over the United States got their early training from Miss Cynthia, including Miss Seanna and Miss Susan.

An elementary and junior high school teacher since 1967, Miss Cynthia brings an effective teaching style, which combines her expertise as a school teacher and her talents as a dance teacher. A master dance teacher, she has taught for Dance Masters of America and Dance Teacher’s Club of Boston. As the director of the Salem Children’s Theater from 1978 to 1999, she also brings a theatrical flair to her choreography. She has choreographed many community theater productions since 1976. A member of the Deane family, she has performed professionally as a singer, actress, and dancer in the United States and abroad and is a former member of the Boston Ballet.

Cynthia Marnik also has contributed her expertise in the arts to the community as the Chairman of the Salem Arts Council, Director of “Opening Night, Salem” (First Night), Director of a Miss America Preliminary pageant, and producer of television programming. She also has written several plays during her years as a theater director.

Miss Cynthia will also be bringing back the Salem Children’s Theater for students ages 7 to 11 and adding the Teen Studio Theater for students ages 12 through 17. The program will offer comprehensive, multi-discipline theater classes that expand on the idea of the “triple threat” artist. The program will include classes in acting, singing, theater movement, study of musical theater, piano, play production, and playwriting. It is a chance for students to learn new physical skills, explore their creativity, discover a variety of techniques, expand their imaginations, make new friends with artistic interests, and have lots of fun. It is also a chance to hone communication skills and develop confidence. The program also offers drama therapy through improvisation and role playing.


 
 

Miss Katie Machado

Katie is a Former instructor at the Deane School of Dance and Dance Exclusive, and is the Director of the Marblehead High School Dance Troupe. She is the assistant Director of the New England Broadway Connection and has performed twice at the Magic Kingdom with the company. She is a former member of the Deane School of Dance Tap & Jazz Corps., and a soloist for the Salem Ballet Company, and The New England Ballet Ensemble. Miss Katie received a B.A. degree in English and Elementary Education from Merrimack College and is a graduate of the Dance Teachers’ Club of Boston Teacher Training Course. She is currently employed by the Marblehead School System as a 3rd grade teacher. She has trained at the Deane School since early childhood. In April Miss Katie was inducted into Pi Lambda Theta which is the International Honor Society and Professional Association in Education.

 
 

Miss Amy Muzarol

Amy is an instructor at the Deane School of Dance and Dance Exclusive. She is a former member of the Salem Ballet Company, Deane School of Dance Tap & Jazz Corps., and a soloist for The New England Ballet Ensemble. Miss Amy is also a former member of the New England Broadway Connection and also performed two times at the Magic Kingdom with the company. Miss Amy received a B.S. degree in Child Development from Colby Sawyer College in New Hampshire and is a graduate of the Dance Teachers’ Club of Boston Teacher Training Course. She is currently employed by the North Shore Infant and Toddler Program as an Early Intervention Developmental Specialist. She has trained at the Deane School since early childhood.

 
 

Miss Jenn Burke

Jen has been studying gymnastics for the past 13yrs and is now a Level 9 gymnast. She has trained at the Marblehead YMCA as well as select programs in Chicago and Atlanta. Jen has been coaching privately for the past 4 years which includes cheerleading and tumbling for children and young adults. Jen is USA certified as a gymnastics instructor and is also Safety Certified by USA gymnastics. She currently enrolled at Marion Court College in Swampscott, MA.

 
 

Miss Anna McNicholas

Anna is in her 6th year as a teacher at Dance Exclusive. She studied dance for many years with the last ten years under the direction of Miss Susan and Miss Seanna. She was a member of the Salem Ballet Co., The New England Ballet Ensemble and the New England Broadway Connection. Currently she is studying Nursing at Salem State College.

 
 

Miss Jennifer Rutkowski

Jennifer is an instructor at the Deane School of Dance. She is a former member of the Salem Ballet Company, Deane School of Dance Tap & Jazz Corps., and The New England Ballet Ensemble. She is also a former member of the New England Broadway Connection and also performed two times at the Magic Kingdom with the company. Miss Jennifer is currently a sophomore at Salem State College studying early childhood Education. She has trained at the Deane School since early childhood.

 

Miss Nicole Antonopoulos

Nicole is a senior at Bishop Fenwick High School. She received her classical dance training at the Deane School of Dance. She has preformed with The New England Broadway Connection and the New England Ballet Ensemble. Most recently, Nicole has studied under Joe Istre and preformed with the NEBC at the TD Bank North Garden. Nicole is a varsity cheerleader at Bishop Fenwick and has competed in countless regional and state wide competitions.


Miss Meghan Carroll

Meghan is a junior at Fitchburg State College studying Special Education. She has studied dance for 17 years, including 10 years with Dance Exclusive of Swampscott. Meghan has performed with the New England Broadway Connection, the Salem Ballet Company and soloed with the New England Ballet Ensemble production of the Nutcracker. Meghan is also a graduate of the Dance Teachers Club of Boston’s Dance Teachers Training School and has been a class assistant and now a substitute dance teacher.


Miss Candice Borden

Candice Borden has 16 years of hip hop dance experience and has been teaching for 12 years. She continues her education by taking classes and participating in dance conventions. She has a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice from Salem State College and works as a legal secretary in Boston.

Candice is a former member of Phunk Phenomenon Urban Dance Company. With Phunk she has performed for the Boston Celtics and at various Radio Disney events. She choreographs for numerous dance groups of all ages and teaches workshops for Northeast Allstars in Malden and Dancespiration in Reading.
