Miss Cynthia Marnik Cynthia has taught tap, jazz, and ballet at the Deane School since 1970, as well as several dance schools in Massachusetts. She is now an artistic advisor at the Deane School and teaches tap classes. During those years, many dance teachers all over the United States got their early training from Miss Cynthia, including Miss Seanna and Miss Susan. An elementary and junior high school teacher since 1967, Miss Cynthia brings an effective teaching style, which combines her expertise as a school teacher and her talents as a dance teacher. A master dance teacher, she has taught for Dance Masters of America and Dance Teacher’s Club of Boston. As the director of the Salem Children’s Theater from 1978 to 1999, she also brings a theatrical flair to her choreography. She has choreographed many community theater productions since 1976. A member of the Deane family, she has performed professionally as a singer, actress, and dancer in the United States and abroad and is a former member of the Boston Ballet. Cynthia Marnik also has contributed her expertise in the arts to the community as the Chairman of the Salem Arts Council, Director of “Opening Night, Salem” (First Night), Director of a Miss America Preliminary pageant, and producer of television programming. She also has written several plays during her years as a theater director. Miss Cynthia will also be bringing back the Salem Children’s Theater for students ages 7 to 11 and adding the Teen Studio Theater for students ages 12 through 17. The program will offer comprehensive, multi-discipline theater classes that expand on the idea of the “triple threat” artist. The program will include classes in acting, singing, theater movement, study of musical theater, piano, play production, and playwriting. It is a chance for students to learn new physical skills, explore their creativity, discover a variety of techniques, expand their imaginations, make new friends with artistic interests, and have lots of fun. It is also a chance to hone communication skills and develop confidence. The program also offers drama therapy through improvisation and role playing. |
